    WHAT IS MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION?

    The purpose of these tests is to detect possible discontinuities in a part (in ferromagnetic materials) not only on the surface, but also in the vicinity of it(subsurface discontinuities).

    The method is based on the attraction of a metallic powder applied on the surface towards the discontinuities present in the material under the action of a magnetic field. The accumulation of this metal powder around the discontinuities will reveal the location of the discontinuities.

    This peculiarity means that this test can be performed under certain circumstances on painted or primed parts.

    WHAT EQUIPMENT DO WE HAVE TO CARRY OUT THESE INSPECTIONS?

    At SCI we have portable and fixed equipment for Magnetic Particle Inspection (colored or fluorescent). These incorporate the latest technologies, something that distinguishes us and makes us a reference in the sector. The most important are:

    • Both circular and longitudinal magnetization.
    • Equipment optimized for testing large series of parts.

    ADVANTAGES OF THESE TESTS

    Performing these tests by magnetic particles has a series of advantages that we are going to detail:

    • Results are obtained immediately.
    • They are faster than those made with penetrating liquids.
    • They can be used in components with certain coatings. The degree of cleanliness of the component is not as critical as in the liquid penetrant test.
    • These are cleaner analyses than those performed with penetrant liquids.
    • They can be applied to both large and small samples.
